Greenbrier Academy for Girls is a private, therapeutic boarding school for girls in grades 8-12 which offers
an engaging college-preparatory curriculum within a therapeutic environment. Students also engage in a
wide variety of outdoor and extracurricular activities. Greenbrier Academy is designed for average to above
average students who have struggled with issues of depression, anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, substance abuse, grief, loss and adoption issues, but who share a desire to move forward in their lives.
Students are actively engaged in their education process with experiential learning experiences that go
beyond the classroom, and we offer a strong fine arts component that includes painting, drawing and dance,
with independent studies available in fashion and photography. Our attentive faculty and small teacher to
student ratio (1:9) contribute to strong connections with students, offering encouragement and cultivating
constructive habits for life-long learning. Utilizing a Socratic method, mindfulness, and dialectics, we are
able to help girls form valuable and healthy relationships. In daily group and weekly individual sessions,
as well as weekly family calls, students explore their actions to make positive and productive choices.
Our weekly equine assisted therapy provides an opportunity to facilitate caring and effective relationships
between girls and horses. We help our students become aware of the obstacles and resources in their lives so that they can then see different possibilities for themselves in the future.
In addition to equine assisted therapy, Greenbrier Academy offers the School of Horseman that is an optional
program that offers private and semi-private lessons. We also have a wide spectrum of outdoor and indoor
activities (such as falconry, kayaking, biking, skiing, cooking,) and cultural events (attending plays, exhibits
and concerts), as well as volunteer work in the local community. Located in a renovated historic hotel on 140
acres of beautiful forest and open land, the campus borders the Greenbrier River and provides an ideal setting
where students are encouraged in exploring, defining, and implementing their personal goals and values.
