Wilderness Quest uses a modified 12-step program, self-discovery process in an experiential wilderness setting. Students "work" the first five steps in a Personal Success Workbook on the trail. This wilderness "doing" is enhanced by a unique family involvement; while students labor in the field, families are required to work in the Bringing Love Home Workbook to prepare for being reunited with their child. The quest ends with a three-day Family Enrichment Phase, where experienced professional counselors and therapists with special skills in communication and family systems facilitate the experience. Our specialty is substance use, abuse, addiction, and family systems, with over 30 years experience in helping individuals and families in an outdoor setting. Wilderness Quest strives to provide the experience, environment, and knowledge necessary for students to develop love for themselves and their families, discover fulfillment from giving, and cultivate a feeling of belonging. In our program, students initiate journeys toward their full potential spiritually, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. We help young people and families identify feelings, take risks, and change behavior. By learning to love more and fear less, students begin to find respect, support, and harmony within the family. Wilderness Quest offers coeducational wilderness trips with individualized and group substance abuse treatment for young people ages 14 to 17, and a separate program for ages 18 and older. |
